The first Inspector General for the new South Wales and Monmouthshire District was V∴Ill∴Bro. Frank P. S. Cresswell 33°. Following his death in 1936, he was succeeded by Ill∴Bro. F. G. W. May 33°.
He was followed as Inspector General by V∴Ill∴Bro. Sir Frederick J. Alban 33°, and in turn his successor in 1963 was V∴Ill∴Bro. Arthur Randall-Edmunds 33°. During his term as Inspector General the District was again separated into two Districts, when in the early 1980s a District for West Wales, or Dyfed, and one for South Wales and Monmouthshire were established.
After V∴Ill∴Bro. Randall-Edmunds' retirement in 1985, V∴Ill∴Bro. Richard W. Dicker was appointed as Inspector General, and he remained in that position until his death in December 2002.
In February 2003 Ill∴Bro. David G. Edwards 32° was appointed as Inspector General Designate in Charge. He was promoted to the 33° on 30 th June 2003 and installed as Inspector General for the District of South Wales and Monmouthshire at a ceremony held in the Masonic Temple, Cardiff, on 3 rd July 2003.
V∴Ill∴Bro. David Edwards retired as Inspector General on 30th April 2018, the day on which V∴Ill∴Bro. Paul Kelvin-Smith was promoted to the 33°. He was appointed as Inspector General Designate in Charge on the following day, and installed as Inspector General, also at the Masonic Temple, Cardiff, on 17 th July 2018.
